Wednesday August 19th @ 1:15 P.M.
Last week was awfully quiet, in terms of players to picks ratio. We are starting to be concerned about the lack of participation. However, we do have stories to talk about, because there are winners of the week.
Title Inspiration: Spoof of Paula Cole's "Where Have All The Cowboys Gone"

Where Have All The Players Gone
This week saw only 21 players players get points for the week. That's barely 40% of the field that is involved in the game that got points this week. Players need to have 3 picks a week to get points, and you can always DM your admins if you can't access the sheet. We can do it for you. You just need a location, even if it's just Death Valley for the time being.
As for this week, a close battle ensued between 5 players, but it was JRN785 who sealed the deal with the weekly victory. We'll talk more about that later. The closest battle was 3rd and 4th, separated by less than a point. That went to BustCityKing, over WeathermanSam

Believe In Belize
Yours' truly stole another one. This time, it was all about Belize. With the hit or miss nature of the Latin America region, it makes total sense that a steal day could happen. In a word, it is a good thing, because this is all about learning about climates. Belize is something not many players know, even the one writing this. It was worth a shot for a victory.

Pennsylvania Pairing For Victory
gkeller99 & BlizzardJon have been red hot early. A few wins recently have given them much needed momentum in the game's early start. They paired for a victory featuring a place that saw a whole lot of love, last season: Majuro.
Now, Majuro did not have the record setting scores like it did, but it was still a safe victory location, for the season. It came in an underperforming day for the CONUS. Nonetheless, a win is a win, as a wise man once said.

Texarkana Throwdown
JRN785 set a season high last week, with a dominating Texarkana win. This was the first score to reach the 800 point plateau in the young season, in roughly the same time it took for him to get his first last season.
For those who do not know the story behind last year's performance: It was another Arkansas spot, Jonesboro, that got to 800. However, this one was more impressive, as it was not off of a double bonus. That was the major difference. Other Arkansas places saw modest success, but it was not enough.

Double Bonus #2.01
EF Unknown's first victory gave us a double bonus win to talk about, for the first time all year. Panama is back in the victor's circle once again. A lock of about a week out was just enough for EF Unknown to pull off a first career win.
This is the only other pro who has been able to step up his game to JRN785 so far, as others have either not participated, or have not done enough to muster anything yet. Time will tell if the pro category will be a force to be reckoned with.

Nick Takes The Fort
Fort Smith never saw victory last year. Overshadowed by places in Alaska, Texas, and parts of the South last year, it never saw the victory circle. Nonetheless, it was SEMichiganWX's fist W of the season, and it came on a Friday that was sort of quiet, but also had some steals in the Upper Midwest.

Costa Rica Is The New BustCity
BustCityKing is back at the top of a day! A new name did not cause anything to change. This time, a 3rd Latin America victory came into the woodwork, as Costa Rica saw its first win of the year. It is a refreshing change, as Panama has seemingly been Latin America's Barrow. San Jose has seen boom or bust mentality, but it was all about the rain dance that happened Saturday.

Oh, Canada. We Stand On Guard For The W
Weather Warrior competitors have been waiting for this moment: Canadian success. When it was announced that Canada was in the game, players got excited. One person who has to be excited now is gkeller99, who got win #2 of the week, just by picking North Bay.
Whoever had Ontario in the pool for first Canandian victory must be smiling right now. This will be the first of many for our neighbors to the north.

Week 4's Cycle Update
While this week had a lack of places you could've used for heat, unless you have Arizona on the brain, the set for the 24th-30th is expected to have some interesting options. Western PA also receives a handful of extra locations. One is mentioned here, as it is the most notable of them. A few firsts include the first offshore buoy (Block WR29, LA), our first true high elevation cycled location (Solitude Base, UT), and first feature of a St. Pierre & Miquelon location.
For those who like to plan well ahead into next week, here's a select few sites available on the map for 8/24-30. Remember, these are available on the map for that date. You can pick them for the upcoming week now, or pick them for future dates in the season (just keep things in the short-term or semi-long range, so you don't look stupid locking a place like Toronto in October).

The Last Word
A great quote by jjoannid_wtop10 came to our chat on Friday. He said that "Weather Warrior isn't meant to be easy. It's meant to be challenging."
Nothing truer has been said! Challenge yourselves, if you're new. We hope to have you in the long-term!
